Last night I met my friend Tracy and her friend Sarah at The Garlic Poet
in New Cumberland PA. I had been wanting to try this place ever since I heard about it- it seemed like everyone in Central PA had been there except me! Obviously I had to remedy that situation ASAP.
When we sat down at The Garlic Poet and got our menus, we found out it was Taco Tuesday. Yes! I <3 tacos. Tracy, Sarah & I all ordered the Taco Tuesday drink special- the Blood Orange Margarita. Doesn't this look like a yummy drink? It was really refreshing, especially on a 94 degree day. I usually like my drinks to have a little more of a bite to them- this tasted more like a sweet punch than tequila, but I definitely still slurped it down.
We ordered two appetizers- the french fries with truffle aioli and spicy ketchup, and the crab poppers. The waitress also brought out a plate of bread and flavored butter. The fries with the aioli and ketchup were definitely my favorite part of this meal. They were thick and salty, and the sauces were delicious.
I didn't try the crab poppers or the bread, but the girls said they were good too. One of my rules for eating healthy(ish) at a restaurant is to make sure I"m not going crazy with the appetizers. It's okay if I don't get my "fair share." So I only ate what I was truly craving- the fries! If you need more eating out tips, check out the rest of my eating out rules
We all ordered the tacos of course, it's hard to pass up a taco special! The choices were short rib, pork, fish, or oyster- I had one fish and one oyster. I would be lying if I said these tacos were amazing- they were good, but nothing that knocked my socks off. Maybe my expectations were too high since I am used to tacos from El Sol
? I was not a fan of the chips, they were on the stale side and tasted like chips you get from a bag at the grocery store.
I overall had a great time, the atmosphere and the service at The Garlic Poet were good and we had lot of laughs during our dinner. I would like to go back and try something else from their traditional menu, and some of their other specialty cocktails. Happy hour again ladies? Anyone else obsessed with tacos?
